Development on Hold

Mostly being distracted by other projects for a the past few months or so, along with school and a few other things, development of this will be on hold until further notice.  Mostly this just means nothing will be changed on the site, and the forum registration will be turned off to keep spambots out.

I'll probably email people when things actually get an update here.

Major Updates

The newest update has broken the game.  I will fix it sometime next week.

Problem is fixed.  Game should work again, though you might need to logout, and log back in.

Lots of new features added today.  Items make their first actual appearance, with monsters dropping items, and being able to find items in the wasteland and ruins.  Right now there's only one recipe, the combination of rusty knifes will make a survival knife.  I plan on adding more later on.  You can equip weapons and armor, but they don't effect anything at the moment.  This will change.

Water has also been added, though only as a minor thing still.  Searching in the wasteland or the ruins cost one water, but nothing happens when you run out (for now).  You get additional water every 5 minutes, but you have to return to your town to claim it.  The script is a bit bugged, and I think most people will end up with a constant 255 water stored.  That's fine for now.

The battle rules have changed a bit.  Damage is still calculated the same way, but the monster stat generation is a bit more complex, and varied, and monsters are, on average, harder to beat without dying.  Fortunately, death isn't much of a hindrance, for now.  The exp requirements have been lowered, to make it easier to gain the early levels.

The other big thing is the notice board.  You can post messages there, though after 25 messages, the first ones start getting deleted.  Posting a message costs $1 in game.

Updates Coming

Due to the feedback I've received, I've made a list of what improvements are needed.

Revamping the battle system, and level exp requirements - This will mostly be behind the scenes, and will be the first thing I work on.
Monsters will start dropping items, and the inventory screen will have an actual use.
Popup message upon the first time logging into the game.  This will mostly just be a short message and a link to a more detailed tutorial.  Which I doubt I'll write up until the alpha testing is over.
Addition of non-enemy events on the map, to make things a bit less hostile.

In addition, I'll be adding in experience gain to item crafting.

Aftermath Effect Enters Alpha Testing

After close to a year of working on the updated version of Aftermath Effect, it's finally ready for Alpha Testing.  Please create an account on the forums, then login and choose a character name to start playing.

Since this is the alpha release, there's a lot of features missing.  Most notably, items do nothing, and there's no way to gain new items.  Additionally, water is infinite right now, and nothing happens when you lose all your HP.  This is intentional, and will likely last for most of the alpha testing period.

Additional bugs may be reported in this topic, or in the forum feedback section.
