Aftermath Effect

About the Game

The Aftermath Effect: Set 200 years after a war that almost destroyed humanity. Since then, humans have been in a long dark age, spending their time on the edge of civilization. Many people are little more than hunter-gatherers, living off the land and moving as necessary. It's survival, but it's a hard life, and few people live to see their 30th birthday. Those that do earn the title of "Elder", and are believed to have some mystical wisdom in them.

Slowly, people are rediscovering the basics of civilization. Towns are starting to form, near landmarks such as old ruins, or near sources of clean water. Farming is again a viable means of support, and as more towns are formed, trade begins to take place. With trade, wealth, and with wealth, thieves. Bands of raiders roam the wastes, preying on those who grow food, and those who create trade goods. The world is still a very dangerous place. In addition to raiders and feral humans, there are monsters, animals which escaped from zoos long ago who survived the collapse of the world and roam the wasteland looking for easy prey in the form of humans.

You set out to find your fortune, having grown up in the shadow of this new world. Your goals are whatever you choose, be it becoming a master craftsman, founding a town, or setting up a trade empire. Or becoming a great warrior, or raiding others for wealth. The greatest will be remembered for all time, while the rest will simply be forgotten, and their bones will bleach in the hot sun.

The Aftermath Effect is a browser based game, currently in the alpha stage. Set in a wasteland common to post apocalyptic media, your goal is to gain levels, amass a fortune, and help rebuild civilization. The game uses various skills, instead of the common strength/dexterity/charisma values, so you can customize your character to suit your needs. Be a fighter, scavanger, craftsman, or trader, it's up to you. Click here for an example of the game interface.

NOTE: The game is currently in the alpha stage, which means that very few features are complete. Most of these features have to do with the higher levels in the game, such as town building, land purchases, and funding new buildings. Feedback is encouraged, however, and all ideas will be considered (then probably tossed out for being really stupid). Check the forums for details concerning updates to the game, and to provide feedback and ideas.
